Cacao in Ceremony

When you drink cacao you are in ceremony. When you are in ceremony, you offer love to the collective and love to Pachamama. The spirit of cacao is giving you the opportunity to offer love to yourself and to begin the journey of remembering who you are.

Creating your own ritual at home

Home ceremony and rituals at home can flow however you feel speaks to you. Cacao is a wonderful addition to mediation, yoga, breath work, journaling and inner work practices. Below are some suggestions to create a beautiful ceremony or ritual at home

Begin by preparing your space, and cacao. Set aside enough time to prepare your cacao with love and intention.  Choose the vessel you wish to drink the cacao from with care - avoiding metal  (this applies to using metal tools to make your cacao as the energy that metals hold cut though the vibration and frequency of cacao - knifes to chop the cacao are ok)  Try to use mugs or cups made from natural sources, like clay or wood. Once your cacao is prepared, create your ceremony space by preparing an alter to set the intention and tone of the ceremony. It doesn't matter if you don't have much to offer your altar, use what you have with love and respect. Clear your sacred space by burning sage, herbs, palo santo or resins such as copal and amber before you begin.

As you enter into ceremony take a few moments to settle into your space by taking some deep breaths, connecting to your heart space. Holding your cacao close to your heart, set your intentions by speaking to the cacao and let the cacao guide you into ceremony.

Attending a Cacao Ceremony

As cacao opens our heart space, the energetic field of the heart expands. When we come together as community and sit with cacao, this frequency is amplified and each of our hearts becomes interwoven together. We are shifting our energy into the same frequency and vibration. As cacao is rooted in community, her medicine provides an expansive, healing experience for your body and soul. When we take in cacao, we take in her spirit and begin to develop a relationship with her.

Each cacao facilitator will have their own unique ritual and practices, reflecting their relationship with the her spirit. Choose a ceremony that is curated with deep reverence to the original guardians of the land it is held on, and also to this sacred medicine.  The facilitator should create a container where the group feels safe to open their hearts and allow healing to take place. The space should be energetically cleared though the burning of resins, sacred wood, or herbs, allowing the smoke to move and ground in the energy of the space.  The ceremony should include fire which opens up a channel between the spirit world and physical realm (or candles to represent the symbology of fire). There should also be an altar with offerings such as flowers, copal, crystals, feathers and Mapacho - these will all vary depending on the intention of the facilitator's wishes to bring to ceremony. The intention behind offering plays an important role in the tone of ceremony.
